Beijing Art and Technology Biennial
Genesis Art Gallery, Beijing, People’s Republic of China
October to February 2024
BATB is the world’s first Biennial dedicated to the intersection of art, science, and technology.
With this year’s theme “Earthwise”, the curatorial team from CAFA (Central Academy of Fine Arts) invited artists and scientists to reconsider multiple forms of intelligence, animals, plants, or machines, towards to a planetary intelligence.
Mnemonic Landscapes
mnemonic landscapes is a kinetic artwork that challenges our perceptions of the natural world. Five panels form a horizontal view, upon which a 3D-scanned and recomposed landscape is printed on lenticular lenses. These lenses allow for the refraction of light, causing the content of the landscape to change according to the viewing angle. Within these refractive repetitions, the viewer is left searching with a distorted orientation, discovering new territories in the pixelated wilderness. The panels are mounted on a motorized swivel mechanism, adding an extra layer of dynamism to the work. “Déjà vu” articulates a hybrid view on nature, one that is direct, dense, and unapologetic, defying traditional notions of hierarchical and subservient representations.
