The 3D Printshow London

4th – 6th September 2014

Tobias Klein’s The Garden of Earthly Delights was exhibited in 3D Printing Show – London as a commission by ADOBE. The Garden of Earthly Delights is the world’s first 3D print using full gradient colors interwoven into the poly jet print. It propagates a long-standing struggle and clash between the man-made, build and naturally grown environment. Taking this dichotomy as a starting point, the work orients itself on the triptych altarpiece “Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymous Bosch.

The original altarpiece features a landscape that is home to enormous birds, oversized fruit, and bizarre vegetation – a cauldron of excess, and a place filled with the intoxicating air of perfect liberty. In particular, the middle piece of the triptych with its fantastical landscape, populated with luscious architectures that cross between the fantastical and the corporeal is the focus of this new interpretation and transforms this innocent landscape into the setting of the man-made build environment – the architecture of the corporate headquarter.

The result is an amalgamation of the fantastical and playful image of the garden and the architectural language of the campus – a corporate approach in architecture, with what was created by Hieronymus Bosch in his large triptych, the garden as a condition of the plentiful, the lavish and the celebration of life and creativity
